Memorial Day Weekend

We had a fairly busy weekend, but we still found time to pick up our new bull dog. His name is Yater Buster Posey LegarzaYater is a surf board company and Buster Posey is a baseball player. Guess who named him. I did not think we were ready for a puppy (and we probably aren't) but it definitely feels right with a bull dog in our lives again. In addition to the puppy blessing, we were also blessed with windows of sunshine.  Sunday turned out to be one of the best days I have experienced at Lake Tahoe, not too cold, not too hot. There was no wind and the lake looked like glass. I went up to the lake to help my family with the annual clean-up. By the time I got up there most of the work had been done, so after I completed a few last jobs, I joined everyone at the beach and it was beautiful.  I should have taken a picture to share, but I was expecting cold weather and more work, so I did not bring the camera.

I thought I would also include of picture of Maddy looking festive for the holiday.

Cold May Days

Despite the weather spewing out the last bits of snow and cold winds before summer, Maddy and Caedon share a determination to play outside. We recently put in a walkway around the perimeter of the yard. Caedon and Martin love speeding around the yard on their bikes. I like that Caedon can now ride his bike as much as he wants without the direct monitoring he needs in the front.  I can now cook dinner or clean the kitchen while he rides his bike. Aunt Stacy contributed a baby swing to our swing set, which Maddy is thrilled about. She especially enjoys it when Caedon joins her. Hopefully, the weather will act like it is supposed to when June arrives, so that the adults can enjoy the yard as well.  It is unfortunate that the weeds are thriving, but I have no desire to garden in the freezing conditions.

Tour of California - The San Francisco Zoo

Tour of California 2010

Every year Martin avidly follows the Tour of California. We made a family trip of it this year. Here we are waiting to cheer on the bikers.

We made a side trip to the California Academia of Science's new aquarium.

Happy Anniversary!

Martin and I have been married 10 years today. He had to coach baseball so we did not get to go out. Maddy threw up on me when I got home. Then, to top it off I had to scrape gum out of the dryer. Apparently I did not check Caedon's pockets well enough when I threw his clothes in the wash as I was leaving for work early this morning. Oh well life goes on.

Unfortunately our wedding was not recoreded digitally, so I have no pictures to share. One of our wedding presents was a digital camera. After returning from our honeymoon in Coasta Rica, we moved to Santa Barbara. The only digital pictures I can find of that time in our lives are of Shasta in our one bedroom apartment. We bought her our first year of marriage and she almost made it with us 10 years. I thought it would be appropriate to honor her today.

Mother's Day

True to our tradition we participated in "Moms on the Run" today. My sister joined us with her three children.  Usually my brother and his family walk with us but they were at Disneyland celebrating Kaitlyn's fifth birthday. We had a great walk and celebrated Dell as our heroine survivor.

April goes out like a lion!

Another month has flown by and we are into May! The last week of April literally blew by and the gusty winds took down a beautiful evergreen in our yard. May has given us hope for better weather. Caedon played baseball and rode his bike in two races this weekend.  Unfortunately, I had to spend a large portion of my Saturday at the hospital as I was on call.  Today was quieter. After a week of snow flurries, it was a real treat  for everyone to play in the yard. Maddy continues to amuse us with her antics, new expressions and obsessions.

Here is our poor tree:
Sometimes we have trouble getting Caedon to write his words so that the letters are the same size. Who knew that chalk and some bricks would cure the problem? Pretty good printing for a kindergartner; now if we could just get him to do it that well on paper.

Maddy really likes puzzles now. We have one puzzle with shapes that recites the name of the shape when you put the piece into place. This puzzle was Caedon's and somewhere along the line the triangle piece was placed in the wrong toy bin, so it is currently missing. When you turn off the light in his room it says "triangle." Maddy loves this puzzle, but it really bothers her that the triangle is missing. Tonight she finally got fed up and decided to do the yoga move called "Downward Dog." She is demonstrating the move quite nicely. When she got bored of that she carried around her alligator purse from Aunt Tracy (yes, it is the purse from "The Lady with the Alligator Purse" - soo cute!) Finally, we got her into her PJs and she brought us her book to read.
