We are in full swing with fall activities. Our apple tree produced record amounts of apples this year. Maddy helped me pick some good ones. We tried one..it was not as juicy or sweet as the store bought. Instead of eating them raw I thought we could make an apple pie to make them taste better. Maddy, as always, eagerly volunteered as my helper. We washed and peeled the apples, mixed the dough and made an apple pie. I used a Southern Living apple strudel pie recipe that received high reviews. The pie turned out ok. It was on the dry side like the apples, but the whipped cream definitely helped. I would like to try the recipe on store bought juicy apples to compare, or try more butter on the ones from the tree. Still, Maddy had fun and she even helped me wash the dishes.
I am not sure how much more time I will have to make apple pies now that baseball has started. Last night was Caedon's first Fall Ball Game. He is on the Oriole's team since we have to choose American League teams in the fall, but we kept the black and orange theme. Caedon played really well in his first game and we have a lot more games to enjoy through September and October.
